Encore: Tom & Catherine and Dan Dare
The Customs House website caught up with Encore singer Alan Davison for a quick chat ahead of their May concerts.
How did the idea for the show come about?
Ray Spencer approached us about the concept of doing the show because he wanted us to be part of the fifteenth anniversary celebrations and it has moved on from there.
Both shows were huge successes when they were performed so we are looking forward to bringing them back to life.
How will the show work?
The first half will be the songs of Tom & Catherine with Dan Dare being performed second.
Tom Kelly, the shows’ writer, has prepared a narration for them because obviously we don’t have 90minutes to perform every word of both shows.
Although Tom & Catherine will be slightly more static we are currently looking to bring in a couple of young actors to help with the show and it will be an action packed performance of Dan Dare.
What can Encore fans expect from the show?
Whilst the content of the show is a bit different to our usual shows, it is going to be your typical Encore show with lots of warmth and humour.
Tom & Catherine is very much the sadder piece of the two and it’s a case of letting the music do the talking whereas Dan Dare is going to be a hilarious romp.
We are pitching it very much in the Forbidden Planet and 1960’s sci-fi shows genre – so quite tongue in cheek but at the same time making sure that Tom’s fantastic script is given a great performance.
It promises to be a great evening’s entertainment.
