Tonight! Sunday June 22nd
Child from Water
You are invited to join Red Squirrel and friends on Sunday 22 June at 8.00pm for the Newcastle launch of Child from Water at The Bridge Hotel: Red Squirrel is committed to publishing both poetry and prose, so we are particularly pleased to distribute Sand’s first novel, Child from Water by Maurice Dijon (otherwise known as Mike Dillon). This has already had an Edinburrgh launch: the Newcastle event feautures Mike Dillon and a constellation of poets already or soon to be published by Red Squirrel Press, or its Sand imprint. Those who have already confirmed they will attend include Kevin Cadwallender, Tom Kelly, James Oates, Steve Urwin, Stevie Ronnie and Nancy Somerville.
It is the Dark Ages, and it’s getting darker. The despotic refime of Baron Urming is under threat from The Child Roland, an infant paladin whose idea of armour is a bucket with arm-holes. Will the Child be able to rouse the rusticated Heroes known as the Scum to righteous rebellion? Or will the henchmen of the evil Baron capture the Child before he and his Scum army can march on The Dark Tower and take it by storm? There may be short-cuts to the answers to these questions, but Child from Water ignores them. This is a book determined to go the pretty way.
