Work from Fred Voss, Ken Champion, Peter Day and my good self.
Here’s one of my poems.
The Last Day
(Evening Chronicle photograph:
The closure of Consett Steelworks, Sept.12, 1980)
At the front,
two men and women:
harmony in anguish.
Jaws, smiles, set in steel,
eyes fogged by truth.
Redundancy demolishes their lives.
They stand in my sleep,
dressed in red dust,
waiting for a change of heart,
government reprieve.
They are silent
through all our dreams.
