Thank you very much to all the people who offered to perform at the September Ten by Ten and apologies to those who didn’t make the line up. It’s always hard to decide who to pick so that the night will be balanced. I can assure everyone that there will be many more opportunities next year.
September’s line up includes some old favourites and some new faces.
Scott Tyrrell is a popular favourite at Ten by Ten and his amazing style and delivery always impresses. This Slam winning poet is not to be missed.
Jess Johnson of Pink Lane Poetry fame is joining us and we are looking forward to her first spot at Ten by Ten.
Sue Pickering returns after her enforced absence due to a small child repeatedly vomiting on her shoulder and keeping her awake all night.
Ben Holland will be playing a few of his songs as well as maybe giving us a little of his own poetry.
Viv Wiggins of the Word Tank Collective has some new material that she is dying to try out.
Degna Stone is performing for the first time at Ten by Ten and she will be reading poetry whose themes include motherhood, identity and (of course) love.
Louise Bell is from South Shields and her poetry reflects her love of travelling to the four corners of the globe and Ireland.
Eileen Jones has been writing poetry since 1966 at the rate of 1.9 poems a year, she is also a script writer and recently had a comedy sketch performed by Cloud 9.
Joel Barrow poetry this time promises to be a more light hearted explanation of the existence of the universe type and other stuff.
Evolving Words are the Newcastle chapter of a national project for young people to celebrate Darwin, funded by Wellcome Trust. Working with Valerie Laws, they’ve produced a performance piece giving their own irreverent interpretation of survival of the fittest and intelligent design. They are Craig Walker, Lydia Rose, Steve Rafferty and Chris Martin.
There is still time to get your poem submitted for the Book of Ten, submission deadline is 1st September. Up to thirty lines on the theme of ten, maximum three submissions.
The October Ten by Ten will be a Lyrical Slam. This is a slam for everyone. All you need are the words to four songs and your own way of performing them. You cannot sing the words and please do not bring any props. For more details of the rules etc and to book your placejust email me.
On Thursday 19th November the Ten by Ten will be the launch of the Book of Ten and the published poets will be reading from the book. More details later.
Don’t be late we start at eight…
