Ten by Ten is back after our summer break, we have emptied our sandals of sand and put away the mankini and we are ready for another night of spoken word from the best the North East has to offer.
Simma is a poet with a passion for performing, he is best known to the wider public as a singer songwriter and the brains behind Acoustic Circus but he is also equally famous as a bestselling poet. Here is a chance to hear new words from a great wordsmith. Gari Sullivan is a writer of black comedy. Not afraid to be controversial, he hopes to get the bastards before some idiot assassinates him.
Sarah Fletcher has been writing poetry ever since entering the WH Smith Young Writers Competition at the age of 8. She is originally from Ripon in North Yorkshire, but studied her Masters degree in Newcastle and has been here since 2005. Alfie Crow is an actor, writer and poet, he has spent the last few months bashing away at his Remington typewriter to bring us more of his fantastic poetry and prose.
Jake Campbell is currently writing a collection of poetry about Tyne and Wear; exploring the connections between decay and resurgence. He regularly performs his poetry in venues around the North East and in Chester. Aidan Clarke has successfully/unsuccessfully performed his poems in a variety of venues, usually rural (hilltops) and coastal (beaches) to an audience of zero. Having spent two years writing a recent poem, he feels the need to prove its worth in front of people.
Chris Buglass is a writer and musician with 24 years experience of dealing with life and all of its attendant problems. He has spent most of that time discovering that he doesn’t know much about anything. His poetry is therefore based on what he thinks is going on around him. Alison Smith is a poet whose poetry refuses to be pinned down. She writes about being human in the twenty first century.
Ian Williams was the rather melodramatic winner of the Tyneside Lyrical Slam earlier this year. To coincide with his latest exhibition in Alnwick, Ian looks to perform a short number of rather reminiscing poems that will be on display at the Playhouse Theatre. Anna Puhakka is a Finnish artist and writer. Her written work is an extension of her artistic practice and manifests through poetry and short stories. Writing both in her native Finnish and English she explores her relationship to ‘nature’, ‘history’, ‘identity’, ‘nationality’, ‘religion’ and the balance of ‘power’
Mainstream Misfits are Amy Wormald, Jodie Keeley and Adele Osborne and they were the regional winners of the WordCup 2010 and they will be performing their winning piece at this month’s Ten by Ten
Don’t be late we start at eight…
