Saturday 5 July – 10.00 am to 1.00 pm

Cynthia Fuller is a poet who has lived in County Durham since 1979.
She currently teaches at Newcastle University on the Postgraduate
Certificate and the MA in Creative Writing. She also works as a tutor
in Literature and Creative Writing for the Open University. Her most
recent collection of poetry, Jack’s Letters Home, published by Flambard
in 2006, was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. Her previous
collections: Moving Towards Light (1992); Instructions for the Desert
(1996); Only a Small Boat (2001) were also published by Flambard.
She has worked as an editor, most recently with Julia Darling on
The Poetry Cure (Bloodaxe, 2005) and with Andy Croft on
North by North-East (Iron Press, 2006).
The workshop will focus on the line – traditional lines and experimental.
Examples will come from the work of Gillian Allnutt, John Burnside,
Carol Ann Duffy and Michael Longley. You might be interested to have
a look at these poets beforehand, but the main preparation is to look
over your own recent work and see whether you have your own
‘line habits’. Bring pen and paper.
Tickets: £12 (to be obtained in advance)
Max. Participants: 15
