MANDY MAXWELL is a Glaswegian who has made her h…ome in the north east of England. A poet and teacher, her work has appeared in Write Times, Reading the Waves, Northern Lines, Poetry Scotland, The Glasgow Review, Mslexia and The Black Light Engine Room. She writes mostly about childhood and the challenges that young people face. She occasionally ventures into politics, propaganda and almost always ends a set with a good fart….poem!! We welcome a return visit to Poetry Jam from one of the finest writers and performers on the circuit.
AIDAN CANT was born in 1957 in Newcastle. He started writing when punk rock hit the region during the late ’70’s. Gigs meant blagging support slots with local bands and then dodging the missiles. He has had one full collection and a half collection published by Riot Stories (London), has read at the Poetry Olympics and did support slots with The Jam on their 1982 Trans-Global Unity Express tour. Following an extended leave of absence, he has been inspired by so many poets around the North East to take leave of my senses, and get back to performing again. Aidan has recently appeared at JibbaJabba and Hot Words at the Chilli in Newcastle.
SARAH HAMMERSLEY became hooked on poetry as a young child when she first heard the cautionary tales of Hilaire Belloc. Over the years she has written poems as a way of capturing moment. In 2010 following the publication of some of her work, she began experimented with different poetry styles . After being approached by Apples and Snakes north east she has gone on to perform at Take Ten, JibbJabba, Settle Down Cafe, and Pink Lane in Newcastle and Off the Wall in Brampton. She was a semi-finalist at her first slam at the Tyneside Cinema in 2011 with her poems about lust!
