next swan down the river might be black
the new play by sean burn
It tells of the interactions between two patients and a student nurse over six days on a psychiatric ward:
Cerys (a 19-year-old black woman, who is suffering from depression after the death of her best friend); Kay (a 26-year-old white woman living with bipolar disorder, and who has been in and out of institutions since childhood); and Zee (a British born Pakistani 22-year-old woman who is coming to the end of her training as a student nurse, and who herself also suffers depression).
This is an exploration of their well-beings and friendships in the face of a powerful, yet faceless institution.
Black Swan Productions is a new company that has been created as a result of working on this script. We aim to develop and support work that gives a voice to those from the edges.
This is our inaugural production. We believe passionately in this well-crafted drama: a hauntingly poetic work that connects with universal audiences.
