Men of the Tyne
‘Men of the Tyne’ is a heart-warming show that captures the stories of men who worked in the Tyne shipyards from the 1950’s to the 1980’s.
The shipyards were a symbol of the north-east’s industrial heritage respected throughout the world.
The show includes new Tyneside songs, stories and a film on the men who worked on the river.
Commissioned by Ray Spencer, of the Customs House, writer Tom Kelly and film maker Andrew Hagan, spoke to men who worked on the river and these stories can be found in their film ‘Men of the Tyne’ which features in the show.
Tom Kelly wrote and performs the stories in the show. The ‘Men of the Tyne’ songs, written by Kelly and Ian Ravenscroft are played by Ravenscroft; Jarrow’s Ron Smith and sung by folk singer Ted Cuskin.
And here is one of the songs, ‘Ghosts on the Tyne’ taken from Men of the Tyne Film
