Marianne Faithfull
Number One Album in 1976
In another life I used to write pop songs. One of the many songs I co-wrote with musician Davey Price was, The Way You Want Me To Be recorded by Marianne Faithfull. The song featured on Marianne’s album Dreamin’ My Dreams in 1976 and was released as a single in the UK in the same year.
Here’s Wikipedia information on the album

And here’s some information I have just culled from the Irish Charts.

The album was released on March 11th 1976 in Ireland and reached number one and stayed in the charts for 8 weeks. The Way You want Me to Be was also released on June 30th 1976, on the B side of Down The Road and made the Irish singles charts, reaching number 11.
We probably didn’t notice because our lives were tied-up with writing songs for the Cold Comfort album, In The Can, released by Jet Records.
Here’s some info on that album courtesy of ebay!
Davey and I wrote all the songs on the album. I was also busy writing and producing Kelly, a musical documentary with Alan Price which became the subject of a BBC TV Arena programme screened twice in 1977 and 1978.
Kelly was directed by the lovely and talented Peter West. Sadly no longer with us.
Be all that as it may the song The Way You Want Me To Be has subsequently featured on the albums Faithless, Rich Kids Blues, No Regrets; It’s All Over Now Baby Blue, throughout the world.
Here are just a few of the releases I didn’t know about until I googled this week!

Me and Davey always fancied having a number one album and a hit single. We did.
