Maggie Whyte was born and raised around Newcastle upon Tyne. She trained in Fine art and worked in Medical art in Newcastle and Toronto Universities, taught arts and crafts to disabled people and ‘fell’ into social work and counselling. Maggie is interested in people, psychology, myths, legends and esoteric subjects. Her poetry inspiration is derived from life experience, especially loss and she is fascinated with the interplay of what we see as light and dark in our lives. She enjoys having fun, dancing, travel, creative pursuits, exploring the material and meta-physical worlds and having adventures.
Maggie won the 2011 Annual James Kirkup Memorial Poetry Competition, judged by Red Squirrel Press poet Colin Will with her stunning sestina, Red Lipstick. Maggie’s pamphlet, No Mud No Lotus, is her prize.
