Ciaran Carson is one of the leading Irish poets of his generation. His most recent collection, For All We Know, is an intricately constructed sonnet sequence that tells of a doomed love affair. It has recently been shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize and the Costa Poetry Prize. Tonight he will read from his just-published Collected Poems (Gallery Press).
W.N. Herbert was born in Dundee but has lived in Newcastle for many years. Herbert is well-travelled, and his poems reflect his deep engagement with the literature and culture of Russia, China and Italy. Tonight he’ll be reading from his latest collection, Bad Shaman Blues (Bloodaxe), as well as new work. Whether in Scots or English, his work is comic and surreal, and hugely entertaining.
