Live Theatre Sunday 19 October, 7.30pm
Enjoy the best contemporary poetry this Sunday at Live Theatre with readings from modern-day visionaries John Burnside and Pauline Stainer.
John Burnside
John is a poet of both the domestic world and the spiritual realm. His central theme is belonging: how we belong in our skins, in our homes, in our world. He has published a staggering ten poetry collections, including: The Asylum Dance (Cape), which won the 2000 Whitbread Poetry Award; a Selected Poems in 2006; and most recently Gift Songs (2007).
Pauline Stainer
Pauline writes spare, delicately poised poems that possess a visionary clarity. Tonight she will launch a brand new collection, Crossing the Snowline (Bloodaxe), which charts her grief after the death of her daughter. As Anne Stevenson has observed: ‘Pauline Stainer writes sacred poetry for the scientific twenty-first century’.
