Two Poems: Ink, Sweat & Tears
Two poems today by Tom Kelly – both come from his new collection Somewhere in Heaven published by Red Squirrel Press…
Private Intention
I watch the candle
gutter to a nothing.
By now she’s home, he lies upstairs,
coughing louder when she returns.
His bed’s a sculpture of newspapers,
a cigarette weaves from an ashtray.
The cough harsh.
Nights only long.

New Year’s Day: A Shimmering
Between stream and snow packed bank
a centre parting,
slowly becoming a question mark.
A man walks a dog,
we meet at the tunnel entrance,
in the distance an icy shimmering.
